March 2006 Nutrition Buddies Project
Welcome to the Nutrition Buddies project! This project connects youth members of FCCLA with ‘buddies’ from families eligible for free or reduced school lunch to explore healthy living and nutrition. It is made possible through a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture and the University of Minnesota. The following capsules can be used in a one-on-one mentor relationship or in a group or class setting. Each capsule contains a list of all the necessary materials, an introduction to the lesson, directions for completing the activity and any necessary worksheets or coloring sheets. The first fifteen capsules explore the five groups of the MyPyramid food guide in depth. The next five capsules cover the MyPyramid and what the symbols mean and the final capsules teach other aspects of healthy living. Complete the capsules in order or select the topics you wish to teach your buddy. After completing a capsule, remember to fill out the report form and send it to the state office so we can report the projects success and impact to the USDA. See Capsules in the Downloads section of the FCCLA website for more materials on this project.
